Love Letter to my Passion

This blog began as a joke with some friends about current events. I was continually growing alarmed at the election information I was receiving, and I talk about it. I talking about it a lot….. A LOT. I was restless and they were tired of hearing it, repeated to them. That’s when my friend Trixie said the magical phrase, “Why don’t you just write us a newspaper. That way we get it all at once?”. An Angel got its wings that day. The next night I bought the domain name and thought I started a website. I had not started a website, I had in fact wasted $30 though! Then I found SquareSpace and started a website.

You see how I just admitted I’m not tech savvy? Please take this as an open invitation to leave me something in the suggestion box, if you know a better system than Goggle (I know how to spell, and you know what I mean) for that. I am incredibly inclined to use tech developed by a local developer, or just something more secure than Goggles. I’m currently researching European alternatives, so bear with me.

When the project launched I considered how I’d keep it interesting and alive. How would I write 5-6 articles a week? Th news isn’t always that positive, and I’m not always that interesting. That is when I decided to begin the Goggle forms for guest authors. The first edition was a Canva flyer because I felt such a desire to get it out to my friends/groups. Look at me now ma’ got a website and everything.

To be very direct and serious for a moment, my grandmother escaped Nazi Germany with the number tattooed on her arm. She died with that reminder. She was not supposed to survive, and therefore I was not supposed to be here. She got here from the Nazis the first time, and gave up everything so my grandfather could live. She came over on Ellis Island and stayed in New Jersey like many Jewish. I myself don’t practice Judaism, but I like to think My nose resembles hers. My grandfather eventually left NJ and the rest is history, until it isn’t.

When I found out the Blue Wave didn’t make shore election morning, I thought of running. Then I thought of her and felt as if we’re done running. She ran then and she couldn’t outrun it, because she didn’t know she was playing the game. I’m not claiming to be a chess master and know how to beat fascism. I do know though, that at least we have seen it before. At least this time we may have enough numbers to support each other. Even if every movement on my article surrounding “Passionate People”, disappear this newsletter won’t.

I am not going anywhere, and as long as I can fund it and access it neither is the Ant Colony. The page was meant for the ants fighting against the grasshoppers, hence the name The Ant Colony. Every movement is one step closer and one more chance to connect. I will use this platform to promote any and all good, nonviolent, community building, and silly news I can. Thank you for giving my passion project roots, from wherever you find it.

Happy Valentines Day from me and my special lil Hydra <3
